The Process
“Enchantment” is made from two separate pieces, an open-back corset and wide flared pants. A large bow ties behind the neck of the corset and drapes to the waist. The flowers on the pants are 3D, created from white silk petals lined with interfacing and wires to shape them.
My fabric choices consist of silk and liquid organza. The body of the top and the pants are made from silk to give them a dramatic shape. Liquid organza is draped and stitched into the armholes to create the open sleeves with little bows attached at the cuff to give them some dimension and detail. Strings of pearls are placed on both sides of the slit in the sleeve and add a grounding element to the otherwise light organza.
The pants are closed with an invisible zipper. Meanwhile, the corset is closed in two places; one at the neck with a tie and one made from hook and eyes along the bottom seam. This specific closure system allows for the corset to be adjusted to the wearer. The hook and eye seam would have a few layers of eyes to ensure comfort.
