rain-slicked skin
beneath tumultuous clouds
that smear the sky
with lightning bolts
and hammer hymns
in the gray world below.
i feel the water
rising now.
it licks the sidewalk
as the current
tugs at blades of grass
and flushes out the worms.
they wriggle
between my fingers
as i cradle them
in my palms
before placing them
amidst the flowers.
suburbia cowers
as the atmosphere
rattles and
i wonder if
the Heavens fell,
where would the angels go?
the air smells
like dew and promises
of a spring yet to
come as droplets
slide down
my cheeks like tears.
am i pretty
like the glint
of water
on leaves
the color of
emerald and agate?
i hope to
sway in the breeze
like the branches
of willow trees
as sunlight pours
through gaps in the bark.
to speak to
fireflies
in the stardust of dusk
as the lichen
and the moss
whisper secrets of summer.
